Mr. Eric J. Roeder, MAI, CCIM is a Senior Advisor at Birch REA LLC. He has over 20 years of experience workng with commercial real estate throughout the United States. Property types include office, industrial, multifamily, retail, hotels/resorts, manufactured housing, automobile dealerships, and agricultural properties. Primary focus has been real estate valuation in support of mortgage lending, commercial mortgage backed securities, private equity real estate, and low-income housing tax credit investing.
Prior to joining Birch|REA, Eric spent six years as the Mid-Atlantic Regional Appraisal Manager for SunTrust Bank. In this role he directed a team of real estate analysts within SunTrust’s Corporate Risk Management Division and analyzed cash flows and market conditions for complex, high-value real estate throughout U.S., advised Commercial Real Estate, Institutional Real Estate, and Business Banking lending teams, created and presented real estate market and economic updates to SunTrust lenders, asset managers, and executive management, and actively resolved disputes related to appraised value of real estate.
Additional professional experience includes seven years at AEGON/Transamerica where he analyzed new Commercial Mortgage Backed Securities (CMBS) issues and counseled Structured Finance Traders/Portfolio Managers on risks associated with potential purchases, participated in the annual valuation of AEGON’s $12 billion mortgage loan portfolio, created detailed valuation consultations on multiple property types located throughout the U.S., advised Private Equity Group on potential fund investments and joint venture opportunities, and regularly briefed AEGON’s real estate investment committee regarding value and real estate market conditions related to potential investments.
Eric has earned the MAI designation from the Appraisal Institute and the CCIM designation from the CCIM Institute. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Macalester College and Master of Science degree in Real Estate Valuation from the University of St. Thomas.
Eric is based in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
